They are qualified to provide both interpretation and guided tours, ensuring accurate communication and detailed explanations for visitors. This license guarantees a high standard of knowledge about Japan’s culture, history, and sightseeing spots, as well as language skills. As of April 1, 2025, there are 27,950 National Licensed Interpreter Guides registered in Japan, including English guides.
In the 2024 fiscal year, 3,022 candidates took the English exam, with 303 passing, resulting in a pass rate of 10.0%.
